This fun course for beginners explores watercolour painting with pen, ink, pencil and pastels to create non-traditional compositions.
Under the guidance of our experienced tutor, you’ll be introduced to the concept of colour theory and learn about the work of a wide variety of artists to help broaden your knowledge.
You’ll get hands on with watercolour painting techniques from transparent and opaque washes to layering and staccato dry brushing. Also explore the fundamental image making concepts of line, measurement, perspective and composition and get an introduction to the importance of tonal value (shadow and light) to create the illusion of three dimensional form.
This is a great 6-week course for beginners looking to explore the world of traditional and contemporary watercolour techniques.
Full instruction is provided on materials, products, tools, equipment and studio procedures.

We use non-toxic paints and non-toxic cleaning products and methods wherever possible.
Tutor: Lisa Starr
Lisa is a Sydney based artist originally from Canada. She graduated with distinction from Concordia University, Montreal with a BA Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing. Lisa’s work draws primarily upon her surroundings and memories from living in Vancouver, Montreal, Cambridge and Sydney. She has exhibited her work, which includes oil, acrylic, watercolour and various drawing mediums in galleries in Canada, the UK and Australia. Lisa enjoys working on private commissions and teaching painting and drawing.
