Inspired by Sydney’s vibrant beach life and rugged coastline Mia Oatley’s abstract figurative and landscape paintings have been nurtured and refined over 18 years as a professional painter. The richly layered oil paintings on canvas are created over weeks and sometimes months of expressive brush marks and palette scrapes
Mia’s work is influenced by the astonishing colours, beauty and rhythm of nature. The way sunlight and colour falls across a body of water, delightfully vivid rows of beach umbrellas with sunbathers casually relaxing underneath them, and aerial vantage points across some of Sydney’s most famous bridges. Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Spit Bridge feature in her paintings along with famous beaches such as Bondi and Manly Beach.
