Max Solling, without doubt the foremost historian of Glebe, will lead this fascinating walk through Glebe and talk about the area’s history and architecture.
Max, founding member of the Glebe Society and convenor of the first History committee, led the first Glebe Society Walk in 1969.
The walk will begin in the St Phillip’s Estate (at Mitchell Street), cross Glebe Point Road into Derwent Street on the Bishopthorpe Estate, then continue down St Johns Road (taking in part of Westmoreland Street) to Glebe Town Hall. After that, we will head back up to the corner of Glebe Point Road to see St Johns Bishopthorpe (the Anglican church) and the old Glebe Post Office.
The Glebe War Memorial and HJ Foley Park are next, from where we head down Bridge Road to the ‘Ponds’ precinct of the old Glebe Presbyterian church, Reussdale and St James Church. Our final destination will be John Street Reserve, a native small bird habitat.
Max’s prodigious knowledge and his engaging story-telling will make this walk an unforgettable experience. A handout will be provided on the day.
Max will also lead a walk through Forest Lodge on Monday 24 June.
