Looking for a colourful way to celebrate Mardi Gras this February?

Welcome to Mardi Gras Churn Nights – a special three-week celebration where you can create your own free recycled carabiner from plastic bottle tops while learning about sustainable living.

For three special weeks during Mardi Gras season, we're opening our doors at the Banish Sustainability Hub for a vibrant celebration of colour, creativity, and community. Our Thursday evening Churn Night events transform the popular "Churn Tuesdays" social media series into an interactive public event, and for Mardi Gras, we're making them even more special.

During each session, you'll witness the complete recycling process from start to finish, choosing your favourite colour combinations to create beautiful, functional carabiners entirely by hand.

And the best part? Carabiners are completely free for everyone during Mardi Gras! (RRP $7.50)

Plus, we'll be donating the price of every carabiner to ACON, to support health outcomes for the LGBTQ+ community in Sydney, regional and rural NSW.

Perfect for keys, water bottles or clipping onto bags, each handcrafted carabiner diverts 6-8 bottle tops from landfill. Choose your own vibrant colour combinations, see recycling in action, and walk away with a planet-saving product that’s unique as you are.

Our forever refillable recycled pens will also be available to create for a small price including refills, if that’s more your style! The process takes about 5 minutes, and you’ll get to see where the magic of recycling happens right here in Sydney.

Located in Haymarket near Central Station, our Sustainability Hub is easily accessible by train, bus, or light rail. Whether you're finishing work in the Sydney CBD, catching up with friends before heading to Mardi Gras events, or live in the inner suburbs, it's a convenient stop that fits perfectly into your evening plans.

Plus, no registration is needed – just pop in.

Each product you create supports the vital work of keeping hard-to-recycle waste out of landfill, as well as our environmental education initiatives.

So come celebrate diversity, creativity, and sustainability with us with our free event this month! Turn trash into treasure, make something in your favourite colours, and be part of a community that's working towards a better future for people and the planet.
