Taking you on a musical journey to Greece, Manolis Michalakis (bouzouki), Irene Vacondios (vocals), Johnny Diamandis (bouzouki), Thomas Papadimitriou (piano), and Angelo Gatsos (keys/accordion) will present music of the great composers. Hear compositions from Asia Minor, Rebetika and post war Greece through to today.
Manolis’ career in Greece marks a 30 year collaboration with Greece’s finest artists and composers. His longest being with Greece’s most respected female vocal artist and muse of the great Zambetas, Vicky Mosholiou.
Educated at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Manolis not only teaches bouzouki and classical guitar, but has written many books about learning the bouzouki.
At the tender age of 9, learning to play bouzouki, through to his professional beginnings at 16, highlight a love for Rebetika and contemporary folk music.
Moving to Greece several years later, he broadens his knowledge in jazz and improvisation. All these styles are evident in his unique delivery on the bouzouki rendering him as one of the finest international virtuosos on bouzouki today.
