The Lunar New Year promises to be an auspicious year, with the Pig representing success in all avenues of life.
Sydney’s Queen Victoria Building (QVB) will celebrate the Chinese tradition in style, with an extraordinary wishing tree display and rotating pop-up activations. The QVB presents the QVB Wishing Tree – a peach blossom tree installation beneath the historical central dome.
Reaching 6 metres tall and spanning more than 4 metres in diameter, visitors can take a seat upon its base to gaze up to take a closer look. The blossoms are actually thousands of tiny felt piglets, in celebration of Year of the Pig.
On level 2, visitors will find the QVB Wishing Station, a beautiful space to celebrate Lunar New Year. The QVB invites visitors to take a moment and and share their wishes for the new year, which will be displayed beneath the dome.
Artist in residence
Sydney calligrapher Teresa Ling will be on site to craft complimentary and customised Lunar New Year prints using calligraphy and a letterpress. Simply choose a background design and new year greeting, and Teresa will apply a letterpress golden QVB Pig to add a finishing touch.
There will be exclusive Lunar New Year offers and retailer pop-ups. Some offers include collecting a fortune cookie from ECCO for a chance to receive 88 per cent off, spending $300 or more to receive a free Origani lip balm or Origani soap from Verdém and Volle Jewellery offers a lucky red envelope with every purchase.
Limited edition gift
UnionPay cardholders can receive an exclusive Swarovski crystal coin (valued at $199) by spending $399 or more on a UnionPay card in a single day at QVB retailers. Gifts can be redeemed at the QVB Wishing Station.
