Join us for this webinar with Dr Simon Holloway as he discusses the use of humour in passages of the Mishna, the Talmud, and the midrash.
While we might not think of the Talmud as particularly funny, there is ample evidence to suggest that certain passages within it were intended to be humorous. Dr Holloway will highlight a number of passages within the Mishna, the Talmud and the midrash that were designed to elicit laughter, and will consider the legacy that the Talmud has had on the history of Jewish jokes.
Dr Simon Holloway is an Education Officer at the Sydney Jewish Museum and a sessional lecturer at the University of Sydney. At present, his research interests concern the Oyneg Shabbes archive of the Warsaw Ghetto, and references to the rabbinic literature found within it.
