Lunar New Year is upon us and 2020 is the Year of the Rat which symbolises luck, wealth and surplus.
Did you know that the Rat is the first in the Chinese zodiac’s 12-year cycle? According to 1 myth, the Jade Emperor said the zodiac sequence would be decided by the order in which they arrived at his party. The Rat tricked the Ox into giving him a ride and then, just as they arrived at the finish line, Rat jumped down and landed first, ahead of the Ox.
Lunar New Year traditions mark a time to gather together at the table and send wishes for a prosperous and happy year to come. To celebrate, New Shanghai is launching a specially curated Lunar New Year Banquet menu at Westfield Sydney.
The 8-course menu will feature lucky dishes such as “Make Me Rich Dumplings”, “Boundless Energy Prawns” and “Fish to Prosperity”.
We’ll also have traditional lion dance performance at Westfield Sydney. Lion dances are said to bring good fortune and chase away evil spirits, and are great entertainment for the whole family.
Good fortune and prosperity await!
