Lunar Lantern: The 2019 Hero Pig

The Pig lantern takes centre stage for Sydney Lunar Festival 2019

The spectacular new Pig lantern by Qian Jian Hua (Justin) will light up the western boardwalk of the Sydney Opera House in celebration of the Year of The Pig.

Delicate and airy appearance, a deconstructed three-dimensional grid has been carved out to form an abstract silhouette of a pig.

About the artist
Qian Jian Hua was born in Nanjing and came to Australia in 1991 as a visiting scholar. He now lives and works in Sydney and his sculptures have been displayed in many major exhibitions in Australia.

About the zodiac animal
The zodiac animal of the Pig is said to be honourable, philanthropic and optimistic. The Pig can be incredibly focused and achieve great things.

Explore the 13 Lunar Lanterns at Circular Quay during the Sydney Lunar Festival.

The Lunar Lanterns will be lit from dusk each evening, but are just as impressive by day.
