Lumenography – lumenograph, are terms I have adopted to identify my original ‘procedure’ that delivers ‘proofs’, ie prints, of a process just as etching delivers an etching or lithography a lithograph.
My prints are not reproductions of a pre-existing artwork but ‘proofs’ of visual composing at the moment of invention.
Direct drawing, painting, texture and mark making are executed on animation cells. Photo transparencies along with maquette, organic materials, cut-outs and glass mattes are my base palette. A light table and overhead projector are my field of ‘play’, a projection screen my virtual canvas where the alchemy of ‘collage’ manifests.
A digital camera captures, selectively, moments in the flux and flow of ‘making’ from the screen. An inkjet printer, my virtual press, delivers a monochrome proof from the camera, at size, that is subsequently hand-coloured and re-recorded digitally to be printed out and/or editioned.
All the digital avenues taken were used as ‘conduits’ only. All components of the projected elements are autobiographical. No CGI, Photoshop, or the like were used. This is my New Printmaking.
