It’s Ladies Day at the Broome races and the divinely beautiful Mike is the toast of the track. But amongst the froth and festivity, a brutal act of violence reminds us that life is not just all fabulous frocks and feathered fascinators.
Alana Valentine is one of Australia’s best playwrights. Known for her incredibly successful verbatim works, she spent months interviewing the gay community of Broome to create Ladies Day – a play that asks questions about tolerance, isolation, love, hope and the right to have your story told. Directed by Darren Yap, this world première production is a vivid, richly evocative play with a big heart.
“Who doesn’t love a man in a dress?”
Please be aware that this production includes enactments of sexual violence. If you have questions regarding the content of the play, please do not hesitate to call the Griffin office.
