La Belle Epoque

Take Mum to hear sublime French choral works in Sydney University's magnificent Great Hall

La Belle Epoque was a golden age of French creativity. The Sydney University Graduate Choir is delighted to present a performance of choral music of this era, accompanied by full orchestra and the organ of the Great Hall, Sydney University.

Works on this program will be the beautiful and moving Requiem by Saint-Saëns, Cesar Franck’s Psalm 150, and the justly famous Pavane by Fauré – here performed in a choral version created by the composer.

A highlight of the concert will be a performance of Christopher Bowen’s Démocratie. It was prescient for a 20 year old poet from the 19th century, Arthur Rimbaud, to write a work that reflects the tensions and drama of our current world politics. This has been set to music by the Choir’s Music Director, Christopher Bowen, inviting the listener into a world of witty satire and political provocation.

This concert marks Christopher Bowen’s 25th anniversary as Music Director of the Choir.
