“The views in this body of work drew my attention. Most exist in reality and some are remembered landscapes. They all have a special memory of place and were observed on road trips and walks in rural Australia.
“Each painting is treated differently in material and technique, depending on my intuitive response to each vista.
“All show patterns unique to each individual landscape, formed by topography, vegetation and extension shadow. This is emphasised by the use of a restricted palette and different surface textures.” – Kristen Lethem.
Sydney based artist Kristen Lethem holds a Bachelor of Art in Visual Communication and Design from Sydney College of the Arts (University of Sydney) and a Master of Fine Art with a painting major from the University of New South Wales Art & Design. She has been a finalist and award winner in numerous Australian art prizes since 2007 including the Paddington, Muswellbrook, Hunters Hill, Mosman, Waverley and Norvill Art Prizes.
