Elvira Martos is a Spanish painter who has been living and working as an artist in Kings Cross.
Throughout her career, she has always been interested in everyday moments as she is convinced that beauty could be everywhere.
The protagonists of her artworks are always ordinary people and scenes. The ultimate aim of her colours, spots and brush strokes, is to express everything that can not be “photographed” – sounds, smells, sensations…
This exhibition is part of the City of Sydney artwork display program.
The artworks displayed are acrylic paintings inspired by the Kings Cross neighbourhood.
Kings Cross is a mix of nationalities, backgrounds, cries, changes, parties, dreams, families, personalities, smells, colours, sounds. It has its own laws, its own story, and main characters. And all together creates a magic and unique place.
The protagonists of the paintings are real people that we usually can see walking through the streets. Serving our meals, or creating this complex and wonderful neighbourhood.
These artworks are meant to be a big mirror where any of us can recognize himself, as a member of this community.
