With over a year of consecutive sold out concerts around Australia, Juliana Areias celebrates the success of her first original album Bossa Nova Baby with shows at the Opera House, Foundry 616 and European Tour.
“Back in Brazil, where she was raised and given the nickname Bossa Nova Baby, Juliana Areias has been compared to Bebel Gilberto, the genre’s golden girl. Now this Sao Paulo-born singer is the toast of Perth’s jazz scene. The release of Bossa Nova Baby has elevated her above a mere covers singer or bossa specialist. The singer excels in an elegant co-composed duet (Belas Artes) with Australia’s finest Brazilian-oriented 7-string guitarist, Doug de Vries” – The Australian, T. Hillier.
“Bossa Nova Baby is a welcome surprise of good Brazilian music, made far away. It’s bossa that plays soccer with jazz – like it has since the 60’s – and scoring a goal” – O GLOBO, Brazil, A.C. Miguel, judge of the “Latin Grammy Award”.
“A wonderful Brazilian-Australian bossa nova baby with contemporary bossa nova songs” – Key and Chords, Belgium, P.V. Wiele.
Juliana Areias lived in Switzerland and New Zealand prior to moving to Australia. Her career includes performances at The Montreux Jazz Festival, Auckland Festival, and America’s Cup, Perth International Jazz Festival and Ritmo Festival at The Darling Harbour, performing for over 30,000 people.
