In commemoration of the 3rd year since Jens Lichtenberger passed away, his wife Lea Kannar-Lichtenberger has been working with curator Lisa Sharkey and editor Lucy Palmer to create a lasting homage to the creative life of Jens. I Kicked a Stone in Metaphor is a book and an exhibition that will introduce the viewer to the unique way Jens Lichtenberger viewed the world. Through his lens, in turn reflecting the inner man, Jens’ camera acted, alongside his writing, as a visual medium that extended his narration of all facets of life.
The book of the same title gathers together more than 200 beautifully written stories, vignettes and poems created over a lifetime – beginning in Jens’ high school years to only days before his death in 2016. This compilation of his creative writing following Jens’ family from Latvia through World War II to their new life in Australia as war refugees; through every decade of adventure and discovery.
This beautifully compiled hardcover full-colour 256-page limited edition book will be on sale at the exhibition.
Launched by Ivana Jirasek and with words by family friend Karla Aspden. This exhibition that runs until November 4 will be a wonderful and lasting tribute to a man of immense compassion and intellect.
