This suite of works was conceived while Janice was exploring the land of the Western MacDonnell Ranges at the beginning of 2018. The objective was to capture the unique light that prevails over the mountainous region, which changes from soft pastel hues of the early morning, to the bright savage reds of the midday, and back to defused pinks and greys of the setting sun.
“When I paint I try to forge connections with my antipodean surroundings, while keeping memories and experienes of my English homelands. Studio hours are spent in a state between the knowing and the unknowing; gathering elusive thoughts that are on the cusp of becoming somthing tangible; capturing on canvas the energy that sits at the core of all that I see around me, and the light that creates its colour.” – Janice Liley 2019.
