Blame It On My Youth is a series of abstract works that conceptually explore the spectacular experiences of adolescence: the freedom, the learnings about identity and innocence, the journey to finding a place in the world, the development and the risks ….and everything in between.
In constructing the paintings, I wanted to light up the room. I aimed to conjure a sense of hopefulness, joy, vulnerability, youth and excitement.
Since completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Australian National University in June 2018, I have used the time since to tour the UK, Europe and Australia’s Eastern seaboard with my band and work, meet artists across the globe and absorb knowledge whilst celebrating youth and friendship. Moving to Sydney in 2019, I’ve worked with some of Australia’s leading artists in a co-operative studio in St Leonards. After taking part in group exhibitions at White Rhino Art space and KXT Bakehouse in early 2019, I decided that it was time to build a collection of works for my first solo exhibition. I could think of no better name than Blame it on My Youth to define the essence of what this show it truly about. It is my largest and most daring collection to date.
Exhibition opening: Friday 9 August 2019, 5pm – 10pm.
