Gondwana Harbour City Series Concert 2, part of the Gondwana World Choral Festival

Gondwana Choirs presents the charismatic Inner Mongolia Youth Choir (China) in the Harbour City Music Workshop with special guest school choir from SCEGGS Darlinghurst at Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This special event is part of the Gondwana World Choral Festival (15-21 July 2019), which is set to be the greatest gathering of international choirs in Australia this century. More than one thousand young singers from some of the world’s finest choirs will converge on Sydney for the week-long festival to celebrate 30 years of Sydney Children’s Choir.

The Gondwana Harbour City Series pairs an international choir with their partner choir from Sydney.

Founded in 2008, the Inner Mongolia Youth Choir was the first of its kind in Inner Mongolia. The choir currently consists of 80 members, aged 12 to 17 and is led by conductor Yalungerile. All are from farming families on the plains of Inner Mongolia. Their teachers have global experience, but and include representatives of traditional Mongol arts and culture. In addition to Mongol language songs, they perform in Chinese and several foreign languages and they also perform traditional Mongolian dances.

In 2012, they won first place in both the All-China Children’s Song Competition and China International Choir Festival, boosting them to instant fame. The same year they travelled to Mongolia to participate in the Voice of Youth concert, held at the Ulaanbaatar Culture and Arts Center, where they once again achieved great success. Following this they participated in the Europe Choir Competition, Taipei International Choir Festival, and 10th World Symposium on Choir Music in Seoul, gradually solidifying their position as one of the major choirs of the world.
