In concert: The Idea of North

Gondwana World Choral Festival presents The Idea of North

The Idea of North, Australia’s most highly awarded and best loved contemporary a cappella group, performs as special guest artist of the Gondwana World Choral Festival.

Multi award-winning group, The Idea of North is a quintet of musicians, serious about music without taking themselves too seriously.

Australia’s most highly awarded and best loved contemporary a cappella group has a beautifully distinct sound and style, but crosses many musical genres: jazz, folk, gospel, pop, classical, comedy – exactly what you see and hear at a concert is difficult to describe, but we’re certain you’ll love it.

With 2 ARIA awards, a significant local and international fan base, and a wonderful back-catalogue of over 10 albums, it would seem that despite its uniqueness, people are getting better at describing The Idea of North to their friends. You may have heard and enjoyed the CDs, but the best stuff actually happens live and can’t be truly felt as ones and zeros, no matter how fast your internet connection is.

“One was again struck by not just the versatility and technical mastery of this group, but the fact that they were simply having fun. And fun, especially when so well-crafted, is contagious.” William Peterson, The Conversation
