Stories of the Anzac Memorial's bas reliefs: FreeSecrets of the Anzac Memorial Tour: $15 plus booking fee

Join us for History Week 2026 and discover the stories hidden within the Anzac Memorial. Experience a special after-hours tour and an exclusive Curatorial talk to uncover the history, artistry and untold stories of NSW's principal commemorative and interpretive monument.

Stories of the Anzac Memorial’s bas reliefs

Wednesday 9 September 2026 | 3:30pm – 4:30pm

Uncover the hidden stories behind Rayner Hoff's beautiful designs that surmount the east and west sides of the building. Each of these bronze panels measures 32 feet long and depicts the Eastern and Western Fronts respectively without heroics or pathos.

The Curatorial team will explore the stories depicted and give audiences a rare opportunity to view some of the artifacts in the Memorial's collection that relate to the bas reliefs. These artifacts will be on display later in the year in our new temporary exhibition so this is your opportunity to get an early preview before the rest of the public.

Location: Anzac Memorial Auditorium, Lower Ground Level (entry via the Liverpool Street entrance)

Cost: Free, bookings recommended.

Secrets of the Anzac Memorial Tour

Wednesday 9 September 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:00pm

Your after-hours Secrets of the Anzac Memorial Tour is a rare opportunity to view the spaces of the building after dark and will explore the controversies, unfinished works and unrealised concepts of the building. This intimate tour will give visitors the opportunity to see the darker side of the Memorial and the stories hidden in its granite walls.

The Anzac Memorial is the State's principal commemorative and interpretive monument dedicated to the service and sacrifice of Australians in armed conflicts. The building itself is one of the preeminent examples of Art Deco architecture in Australia, but did you know it has never been finished?

This is a tour you really will never forget.

Location: Lower Ground Level, Anzac Memorial (After hours entry via the Cascade Walkway on Liverpool Street)

Cost: $15 plus booking fee, bookings essential.
