Heritage festival: take a walk on the Golden Mile

Once a major retail strip Oxford Street became synonymous with LGBTIQA+ life in Sydney from the 1960s onwards, with its bars, clubs, shops, cafes and restaurants, alongside its world-famous and now heritage-listed Mardi Gras Parade Route. Join heritage expert, Matt Devine, for a walking tour of the ‘Golden Mile’ and learn more about LGBTIQA+ sites along the strip, including 3 buildings in the process of being heritage listed.
Matt Devine is a registered architect and heritage specialist working in strategic planning at the City of Sydney. Through his work at the City he has been part of a team focusing on recognising and celebrating the relationship of the LGBTIQA+ community to Oxford Street, Darlinghurst while encouraging development for creative and cultural uses.
The walk starts at Emden Gun, south-east corner of Hyde Park.
