Guided Ride: Erskineville to Surry Hills Christmas fair

Where
Erskineville Rd
Newtown NSW 2042
Australia
Erskineville Square
When

Saturday 13 December 2025 from 1:30pm to 3:30pm

Join us for a relaxed guided ride from Erskineville to the Surry Hills Christmas Fair.

We’ll pedal from the Inner West to Crown Street using a mix of bike paths and quieter back streets, with regular stops along the way. Our ride leaders will guide the group, support less confident riders and help everybody navigate to the event safely together.

The ride finishes right by the Surry Hills Christmas Fair – a big street celebration with live music, stalls, food, games and plenty of festive sparkle. You’re free to stay on and enjoy the event for as long as you like once we arrive.

This is a one-way feeder ride – it’s all about making it easier to choose your bike instead of your car, connect with your community and arrive at the event already in the Christmas spirit.

Ages and experience

This ride is ideal if:

  • You can already ride a bike confidently on shared paths and quiet streets

  • You’re keen to try riding to a fun event with support

  • You enjoy riding at a gentle, social pace

People of all ages and riding backgrounds are welcome. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them during the ride.

This is a friendly, low‑pressure ride with plenty of encouragement. If you’re out of practice, we recommend doing a basic cycling skills session (Cycling in the City) before joining.

What to bring

  • A roadworthy bike and helmet (we’ll do a quick safety check at the start)

  • Water bottle and snacks

  • Sunscreen and weather‑appropriate clothing

  • Your bike lock, if you want to park your bike & enjoy the event

  • Opal card / bank card in case you decide to return home by public transport

  • Bike lights if you plan to ride home after dark

Meeting point and route

  • Start: Erskineville Square opposite train station

  • Finish: Near Crown Street by the Surry Hills Christmas Fair

We’ll follow a low-pressure route chosen to minimise traffic and use bike‑friendly connections. Ride leaders will set a social, inclusive pace so nobody is left behind.

Accessibility and inclusion

We welcome:

  • Riders on bikes, e‑bikes and cargo bikes

  • Families riding with kids on child seats, tag‑alongs or trailers

  • People returning to riding after a break and looking for support

Contact us before the ride if you have specific access needs or questions about the route so we can plan to support you.

Bookings and cancellations

This free guided ride is supported by the City of Sydney, bookings are essential as places are limited.

If your plans change, please cancel your ticket as soon as possible so somebody on the waitlist can join instead.
