Glebe Library is hosting an open day that’ll take over the whole library, spill into Benledi House and out onto the lawn. Join in the free celebrations featuring music, workshops, displays and other fabulous activities for all ages.
Regardless of sunshine or rain, Glebe Library’s 20th birthday will go ahead!
You’ll also get the chance to hear just how the library came to be. It’s a story of some big-thinking people in the neighbourhood who spread the word and raised funds to launch a library and keep the old Sydney Hospital site in the community’s hands.
Showcasing the spectrum of diverse library services, we’ll fling open our doors from 11am to 3pm for a whole lot of fun.
Workshop zones will feature activities from Edison robots, 3D Doodlers, Ukelele playing and yarn bombing, to Rhymetime and craft for kids. Aunty Kathy and Aunty Wendy, Aboriginal members of the Glebe community, will captivate audiences with Dreamtime stories while local musicians provide the perfect atmosphere for the festivities.
If dancing to your own beat is more your style, there’ll be a silent disco to get you moving. The fun continues with face and body painting, history talks, local guided walks and dance demonstrations. And that’s just a taste of what we’ve got planned!
Actor and Glebe local Lyn Collingwood will present a fascinating illustrated talk about the history of Glebe’s libraries with fellow actors Elaine Hudson and Kim Knuckey.
To add some extra energy to the celebrations, Kil.n.it, the creative studio behind the library, will also be opening their doors on the day. Craft with clay in a ceramic workshop and ignite your imagination in other creative pursuits, all to the soundtrack of some groovy tunes.
