It is sometimes said that ‘history is written about men, by men’. Lest the Glebe Society be accused of such a transgression in their historical review of the last 50 years, they’ve gathered together a panel of five women (and one man) who were Society members in the very early days.
Asa Wahlquist will moderate a wide-ranging discussion with panelists Jeanette Knox, Jenny Pockley, Dale Dengate, Suzie Tzannes and Diana Tilly-Wynyard. They’ll also be joined by Glebe historian, Max Solling. Between them, the panel will bring to light their role in the Society in the late 60s and early 70s.
No discussion of Glebe Society history is complete without paying tribute to Kate Smith, the Society’s first Secretary and co-conspirator with husband and founding President, Bernard Smith. After that, expect some fun as panelists trade stories about their exploits in the gritty Glebe of 50 years ago.
Did one of our panelists really hide a tape recorder in her baby’s pram during the Ferry Road demonstration??
