Join three-time Archibald finalist Dee Smart for an immersive four-hour portrait painting workshop. This workshop focuses on capturing the essence of a portrait rather than achieving exact likeness, looking beyond surface detail to what is truly being communicated.

Participants will create a self-portrait within the session, using observation, intuition and emotion to translate an honest moment in time onto the board. The process becomes a quiet conversation between mirror, mind and paint.

Dee will demonstrate and share the techniques behind her Archibald self-portraits, including light pencil measuring, building form, and using a considered palette to create expressive, contemporary portraits with depth and feeling.

Suitable for all levels, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn from a leading Australian portrait artist in an encouraging and exploratory environment. Basic materials are supplied.
