Sally Conwell: Fire and Flower

Sally Conwell- Responses to the Australian landscape

Fire & Flower is a series of works based on Sally’s love for the boundless, sacred and diverse Australian landscape. Australia is host to some of the most resilient bushland environments and flora in the world. Fire & Flower focuses on drawing parallels between the process of natural regeneration the propensity and power to recover and thrive after fire and trauma – and the greater human experience of healing and growth.

Sally is a Sydney-based artist working in oils, watercolours and pencil. She has completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (COFA/ UNSW), completed 2 artist residencies in France, and ran Deadfern Artist Studios in Marrickville for over 5 years. Some of her commercial illustration clients include BMW, SBS, Kit Kat, Virgin Voyeur magazine, and Estee Lauder. Sally teaches art workshops across greater Sydney, co-runs social enterprise Welcome Studio (using art based programs through schools, councils and various communities to support and welcome those from refugee backgrounds) and continues her love of painting portraits, still lifes, and the land.
