The Byron Mark Quintet
Byron Mark’s new project explores the possibilities when combining a traditional string quartet arrangement, together with piano, Cajon, and tabla. After many tours and performances with flamenco ensembles around Australia, Byron has developed a strong passion for flamenco rhythms, and is using this knowledge to craft unique compositions that, although are inspired by flamenco palos, are coloured with Latin and Jazz rhythms and harmonies. The quintet is a powerful live ensemble; with Byron on piano/Cajon, Anna Murakawa & Yuhki Mayne on violins, Maharshi Raval on tabla, and Giorgio Rojas on Cajon.
The Ephemera Quartet Album Launch
“Full of sonic textures and infinite possibility, this is one of the true concept albums of recent years.” Jazz and Beyond. Ephemera: a musical exploration of celestial landscapes such as pulsars, craters, planetary atmospheres, stars, sun and void. Merging the sound worlds of jazz and contemporary classical, and set to real space sounds projections, it is a unique experience. The ensemble is led by Keyna Wilkins (piano/flute/compositions) with Elsen Price (double bass/loop pedal), Will Gilbert (trumpet) and Carl St Jacques (viola) and includes freely improvised pieces. Ephemera have a special show prepared for the Foundry audience, launching their second album “Star Opus”.
