Ensemble Devising for Stage with Ninefold

Ninefold are an ensemble known for their rich choral work and heightened theatrical style. In this workshop, you will gain comprehensive insight to the company’s approach to ensemble performance and devising as primarily informed by the Composition and Viewpoints methodologies.

Led by artistic director Shy Magsalin, this session is for performing artists wanting to sharpen their connection to the group and instantly cultivate a shared theatrical language with others on the floor.

Participants will explore

• developing a sense of group awareness and listening;

• the power of moving and speaking as a unit;

• working instinctively and collaboratively to devise ensemble and chorus-based performance material.

Ninefold’s work is highly physical. Please let us know of any injuries or conditions that need to be flagged for safety reasons.

What to bring

• Wear clothes you can easily move around (same as what you would wear to the gym).

• Please bring a water bottle and a towel.

• Your own utensils/food (we have a fridge and microwave)

Ninefold is a Sydney-based theatre ensemble. Founded by Shy Magsalin in 2012, Ninefold aims to investigate highly rigorous ensemble performance-making and create a sustainable culture for artists who want to explore the possibility of ongoing ensemble work.
