In this fascinating 1-hour event, exhibition curator Laila Ellmoos will take you on a tour of the virtual Customs House exhibition and share her favourite photographs of lost Sydney.
At the dawn of the 20th century, as Sydney was in full march towards modernity, old buildings were being demolished with rapid pace, leading to a sense among some that the city’s history was being lost.
The Developing Sydney exhibition, available only online, is an exciting opportunity to explore the streets of Sydney during this period of profound transformation. The striking streetscape photographs featured are part of the collection of 5,000 photographs and glass plate negatives commissioned by the City Building Surveyor’s department.
Following the guided virtual tour, there'll be a moderated Q&A, allowing you to ask questions and find out more about the City's new Archives & History Resources catalogue.
