In 1978, French writer and member of OuLiPo group, Georges Perec published a text titled 243 postcards in real colour. The text consisted of exactly 243 short messages in the form of postcard greetings as if they were sent by happy holidaymakers from different cities and countries.
In 2020, English writer and artist Linda Parr asked artists from around the world to make postcards images for these greetings. It became a collection of 243 postcards made by artists from 23 countries, which since 2021, has travelled around the world, from UK to Turkey, France and USA, until it came to Australia.
The Waverley Library Gallery welcomes attendees to attend to a night of mixed media postcard creativity held by an artist and researcher Dr Tatiana Bonch-Osmolovskaya.
The participants of the workshop will learn about the experimental writing techniques Perec used to create his postcard greetings. Similar to Perec, you will write your own postcard messages applying both random and structured methods of design. Create unique works of art to take home with you on the night.
The workshop will take place in the library foyer, surrounded by Bonch-Osmolovskaya's art for inspiration. All art and mixed media supplies provided as well as light refreshments.
