Coinciding with the continuum: Independent animation from Japan and Australia exhibition, The Japan Foundation, Sydney presents the continuum Event Series, a program exploring the concept of continuum as expressed through separate yet coalescing moments and unique forms of storytelling through animation.

This series offers attendees a chance to experience behind the scenes processes of independent animation, experiment with different material techniques, and learn about the collaborative nature of animation production from the perspective of filmmakers and academics.

Running until 2 July 2022, this event series features a selection of film screenings, workshops and a catalogue launch as well as in-person and online talk events. Be swept away and challenged by new narratives with special screenings of the exhibition’s animated works at UTS Cinema and Palace Central.

Get crafty with paper and plasticine-based animation workshops for adults and kids. Finally, hear from filmmakers, curators and academics as they discuss the community-driven aspect of Indigenous animation, the subversive and experimental nature of independent animation, and the emergence of a new generation of animators.
