Do you have some painting experience and wish to develop a distinct contemporary visual language of your own?
Kim Spooner introduces you to the hallmarks of contemporary aesthetics in painting, which are playful and energetic, and diverse and broad in scope, but not without the boundaries that define a genre.
She guides you on a visit to the Art Gallery of NSW to view selected paintings, leads group discussions and sets studio projects.
Kim explains how artists are reinventing the conventions of painting and telling new stories by restyling subjects, motifs, materials and ideas. She gives demonstrations of painting applications and encourages intelligent approaches to composing and painting in the contemporary genre.
This intense and energetic course will extend your understanding of painterly practice, mediums and techniques and show you how to apply this knowledge to a contemporary aesthetic.
Students will be guided to identify and develop their own painting style and sensibility as Kim directs them individually with materials and approaches that suit their personal expression.
