Compassion In Fashion: An Evening with Fanny Moizant

Join Fanny Moizant, President of Vestiaire Collective, investigating a more ethical future for the fashion industry

Investigative journalism, film and cultural conversation develop our understanding of how the fashion industry impacts our environment and society. Join educators, entrepreneurs and sustainability advocates to explore and highlight the responsibilities of the USD $3.2-trillion global fashion industry.

Session I:
Fashioning Awareness

A competition-winning AFTRS alumni group created Cinderella, a short film commissioned by Sherman Centre for Culture & Ideas (SCCI) in response to the theme ‘Compassion in Fashion’. Bravery is celebrated through Cinderella’s treatment of ableism and fashion.

Session II:
Fanny Moizant: The Circular Fashion Movement

Greater transparency surrounding the negative impacts of consumer waste has helped to push the circular fashion movement to the fore. Today, the fashion industry is undergoing a seismic consumer shift, causing entrepreneurs to bring the traditionally punk or thrift aspects of second-hand clothing into the luxury space.

SCCI’s international guest, Fanny Moizant, co-founder, Vestiaire Collective, speaks to the industry momentum where reduction in waste and more conscious consumption habits allow pre-loved garments to re-assume the mantle of ‘luxury’ and endure beyond one season of popularity.

Aperitivo Hour

Join SCCI’s guests and Director, Dr Gene Sherman AM, for an aperitivo hour in the RawAssembly pop-up. Explore RawAssembly’s approach to materials where ethical manufacture and sustainability drive new forms of innovation.

Session III:
Ethical Consumption & Sentient Beings

Dr Meg Good of Voiceless: Animal Protection Institute, leads an In-Conversation with Gemma Davis, author of The Compassionate Road. Davis shares her experience in seeking alternatives for the ethically-minded consumer.

Session IV:
Fashioning Fairer Futures

The final panel for Fashioning Awareness, moderated by Caroline Baum, brings together Camille Reed, founder, Australian Circular Fashion Conference, Thea Speechley, RawAssembly and Fanny Moizant to discuss rapid growth in the sustainable fashion industry.

Learn how the culture of responsibility offers greater transparency and access to information for consumers, leading ultimately to a more environmentally and socially just future for fashion.
