Art2Muse Gallery presents the latest exhibition by Australian artist Christine Webb. Webb splits her time between studios in Sydney, Australia and Citerna, Italy to produce an assortment of acrylic paintings exploring place, memory and colour.
“Sometimes when I’m feeling particularly stressed and can’t relax or sleep, I imagine myself walking into a house where all my friends are waiting for me. These rooms, interiors and still life paintings are sometimes actual places where I’ve felt very happy or comfortable, or they are amalgamations of rooms with re-purposed memories of objects I’ve liked and gathered together in my imaginings.
“I return to the open window; a passage of being inside and outside all at once, the ceramic jug; the female form and holder of nurturing liquid, the chair; the personal being, the patterned carpet; the magically coloured foundation of my place of peace.
“As in a dream the colours seem to be exaggerated and the patterns flow into each other. Sometimes I’m happiest sitting in my studio or in front of my mirror wondering what to make next or, indeed, to make of myself. Sometimes I wonder if others have imagined themselves in these rooms, sitting at the tables, retreating from the stress of life. Sometimes life is real and imagined.” – Christine Webb 2019
