Ceramics is one of the most ancient industries on the planet and a complex craft to master.
Throughout this 8-week course, you’ll receive hands on instruction from our tutor who will provide a blend of important technical advice with a passion for the making, using and appreciation of ceramic forms.
Designed to fast track your learning so you can engage in further ceramics practice, the focus will be on the foundational processes of ceramic art as opposed to creating a finished product. However you will produce a small body of work for applying surface treatment. At the end of the course, you’ll have gained a distinct advantage that will put you on a pathway towards further learning.
Full instruction is provided on materials, products, tools, equipment and studio procedures.
Following the end of the course, your fired work will be available for collection so you can show family and friends your creations.
Intimate class size: maximum 10 students. Each student will have their own wheel.
Level: designed for beginner level students.
Wear: comfortable clothing (trousers recommended).
Bring: please bring your own apron and towel – all materials provided.
Exhausted clay is reclaimed and recycled for reuse in our classes.
Tutor: Angus Gardner
Angus Gardner is a Sydney-based artist who works across ceramics and painting. He uses clay as a way of documenting the immediate world around him, investigating our behaviours in social interactions. In his practice Angus uses hand building, wheel throwing and painterly glazing techniques. He creates sculptures that reference traditional ceramic wares whilst pushing the boundaries of functionality and form. Since 2014 Angus has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions around Sydney as well as interstate.
