Dendy Newtown is thrilled to announce a special new program entitled Celluloid Dreams, which celebrates the "reel" celluloid film experience. Our programmers have sourced the original 35mm prints of seven classic films from the likes of Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Stanley Kubrick, and more.

The special 35mm program kicks off on April 26 with our screening of Scorsese’s gangster masterpiece Goodfellas and concludes on December 6 with a 50th-anniversary screening of Andrei Tarkovsky’s sci-fi classic Solaris.

The program also includes Stone’s Natural Born Killers (June 7), Mathieu Kassovitz's La Haime* (July 19), John Landis’ The Blues Brothers (August 30), Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation (September 27), and a special Halloween screening of Kubrick’s The Shining.

*Due to damage to the print, the previously announced 35mm screening of Rashomon on July 19 has unfortunately been cancelled. We will instead hold a standard non-35mm screening of Rashomon on this date. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.

While Covid Safety plans are no longer mandatory by the NSW Government, Dendy Newtown still has a Covid Safety plan in place.

NSW Health have confirmed the current details for cinemas in the Greater Sydney area:

  • Cinemas are operating at 100% seating capacity with ticketed/allocated seating

  • Face masks are no longer mandatory for patrons inside our premises. However, we encourage the use of masks in settings where social distancing is not possible

Safety measures

To ensure a clean and safe environment for our guests, we're implementing these extra measures in our cinemas:

  • We have installed automatic hand sanitiser stations in our cinemas

  • We encourage our customers to use cashless payment options in all of our cinemas to reduce contact points. This includes using "tap & go" at the box office and candy bar, or booking online

  • We have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting all high traffic areas and commonly touched surfaces throughout the day
