Meeting at the usual place, The Shakespeare Hotel, Surry Hills, we’ll be discussing Call Me by Your Name by André Aciman.
It’s summer in northern Italy, 1983. Seventeen-year-old Elio is spending the holidays with his family when an American academic arrives. There is attraction, uncertainty and eventually sex.
The novel is a gay coming-of-age romance as well as a novel about desire, obsession and intimacy. Elio looks back on that summer knowing what he could not know at the time: that some encounters change the way we experience love forever.
Hard copies are very easily available through local libraries. PDFs available from our friend Anna. Or contact me on dalemills@cantab.net for a PDF.
There will be about 10-15 of us in one of the semi-private rooms upstairs, conducive to discussion. Ask at the bar or look for the sign if you can't find us! We are a friendly lot and newcomers are welcome.
