Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 is a monumental work in the piano repertoire, renowned for its grandeur and emotional intensity. The concerto’s four movements showcase the pianist’s technical skill and expressive range, complemented by a rich orchestral texture. The NSSO is joined by Sydney-based pianist Paul Cheung, who regular patrons will remember from his electrifying performance of Beethoven’s 5th piano concerto in 2019.

Antonín Dvořák’s Carnival Overture is a vibrant work that captures the energy and excitement of a festive carnival, featuring lively rhythms, sweeping melodies, and colourful orchestration.

Graeme Koehne’s Bittersweet Symphony is an evocative and contemplative work by contemporary Australian composer Graeme Koehne. With film-score-like textures and sweeping melodies, it was premiered in 2024 in Adelaide, and this performance will be the NSW premiere.

Conductor: Steven Hillinger
