Bach at the Calyx is a series of 4 free and interactive Sunday afternoon classical music concerts. The perfect pairing of J.S. Bach and other masterworks in the verdant surrounds of the Royal Botanic Gardens. Join us every second Sunday in May, June, July, and August to explore a world of musical treasures and floral blooms starring artists from Australia's leading classical ensembles.
These matinee concerts are family friendly and have a 40 minute running time.
Josinaldo Costa (The Sydney Bach Society)
Dr Josinaldo Costa is a highly sought after performer, academic, and pedagogue. Equally at home performing both early music and contemporary classical works, his artistic practice is informed by a passion for meticulous scholarship.
Dr Costa’s research on performance practice of the 18th and 19th centuries has seen him guest lecture, perform, and present masterclasses at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the University of Melbourne, the University of Western Australia, Texas Wesleyan University, the University of Alaska - Anchorage, Western Carolina University, and Oklahoma City University.
A founding member and co-director of The Sydney Bach Society (Sydney) and The Ritsos Project (Greece), Dr Costa has featured as a performer in concert series such as the Virtuosi na Serra, ViolaoPE, AV-Rio (Brazil), Guitar Fort Worth (USA), and the Karlovac Summer Guitar Festival (Croatia). Dr Costa has an extensive recording and publication catalogue with Xenofone music, including three albums of works by J.S. Bach, and eight transcriptions and arrangements of works by J.S. Bach, Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Bigaglia, Gaultier, and Schubert, all of which are held by the National Library of Australia.
The Calyx will be observing strict physical distancing and hygiene measures to protect the health of visitors and staff and minimise the spread of Covid-19. The Calyx is restricted to 200 people within the venue, entry to this free public event within our inBLOOM exhibition will be on a first come first served basis.
All visitors will be asked to check in using the Service NSW app on arrival. This includes all members of any family groups, including children.
