Australian Poetry Slam

Spoken word workshop and competition for high school students

Produced by the City of Sydney

Ignite your passion for spoken word. Sharpen your skills at our spoken word performance workshop run by Word Travels and Philip Wilcox.

Stick around for 1 of only 2 high school heats of the Australian Poetry Slam. Join the competition or click your fingers along as performers speak, scream, howl, whisper or even sing their pieces.

Workshop: 4.30pm–6.30pm
Word Travels’ Australian Poetry Slam workshop will inspire and encourage you to create your own performance piece. Renowned performer, Philip Wilcox, will share his own material, then help you find new ways to express your ideas. Join some theatre and writing games to spark your imagination.

Poetry slam heat 7.30pm -9:30pm
Writers and performers are given a mic to perform their original piece and impress the judges chosen from the live audience. 2 writers from the slam heat will go on to perform at the Sydney final of the Australian Poetry Slam.
