Develop, perform and watch Auslan-inclusive poetry

Produced by the City of Sydney

Would you like to develop, perform or watch Auslan-inclusive poetry? Are you keen to learn about Deaf arts and Auslan?

Then join us for these 2 unique events for Deaf and hearing Auslan users.

Auslan-inclusive poetry workshop: 6.30pm–8.30pm, Friday 8 November

Develop your own Auslan-inclusive work in this 2-hour poetry workshop facilitated by renowned Auslan performative storyteller Todd Wright. Get expert support and guidance as you develop your own piece. You’ll also get the opportunity to perform, if you would like to, at the open hands poetry showcase.

Auslan performance poets showcase and open hands event: 7.30pm–9pm, Friday 22 November

Experience the power of Auslan poetry as 5 emerging Auslan poets perform their work. Offer your support to budding new performers as audience members take to the stage, including participants from the Auslan-inclusive poetry workshop.

Everyone is welcome to join the audience for the showcase. Some Auslan artists prefer not to have their work translated into English as it can significantly alter their intention and voice. Performances at the showcase may be accompanied by other media such as digital projection.

It is free to attend or perform at the workshop and showcase. Bookings are recommended as places are limited.

Suitable for ages 16 years and over.

Performers to be confirmed.

Friday 8 November 2019 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm
Friday 22 November 2019 from 7.30pm to 9pm
