Augmented reality for rookies

Learn to use the Aurasma and Layar free apps and get larger-than-life with this hands-on introduction.

Produced by the City of Sydney

The recent Pokemon Go craze has finally brought augmented reality to the mainstream. No longer the realm of sci-fi, this mind-bending technology is fast becoming integrated into apps and will soon be immersed in our everyday.

By superimposing a computer generated image on a view of the real world, you can essentially bridge your physical and digital worlds. This workshop will use free apps, Aurasma and Layar, accessible on both mobile and desktop environments. Learn the basics of augmented reality, grasp how to make your own constructed worlds and show-off your creations.

Warren Armstrong
Meet Warren Armstrong, the curator of (Un)seen Sculptures, an augmented reality exhibition featuring both international and Australian artists. He’ll share his reality-warping experience, guide you through making your own layers and clue you up on basic skills in digital making and media. This new media artist has the resume of a true technology trailblazer. Settle in for a demonstration of how augmented reality has been applied to multiple purposes. Get your hands on the tools and asset files as you work with Warren to evolve your skills.

This one-off event runs for 4 hours and is best suited to people 15 years and over.

Bookings are essential as spaces are limited to 16 people.

Bring your own lunch and devices (laptop and mobile) preloaded with Aurasma and Layar.

Saturday 29 April 2017 from 10am to 2pm
