Join Fiona Clark and J Davies in conversation with Paul Knight, as they discuss their new works in the exhibition ‘All the World’s Memories’.

This program is part of ‘Artist to Artist’, a series of conversations bringing together practitioners with shared interests and material concerns. This discussion offers an intergenerational account of archiving queer lived experience through photomedia practices.

Fiona Clark’s photographic practice spans more than five decades, investigating the politics of gender, identity, and the body. Her work provides a crucial form of social history through her intimate documentation of Auckland’s drag and trans communities since the 1970s.

J Davies’ practice is rooted in an ever-growing archive of contemporary queer existence through the intertwined lenses of identity, intimacy, and neurodiversity. Their work turns the camera inward to document the private geographies of their own life, reconsidering how intimacy is created, communicated, and cherished.

Paul Knight works across photography, hand-woven textiles, installation and machine learning to explore how intimacy is not only innate but also a social construction that manifests within subjective relations. Known for its frequently abject yet gentle and nuanced depictions, his work often engages his relationship with his partner as an index of time, invoking the intimate present alongside the deep past and near future. Knight is currently a PhD candidate at UNSW Sydney.
