The Joint Committee for the Commemoration of the Anniversary of the Battle of Crete and the Greek Campaign (Joint Committee) annually commemorates through a wreath laying ceremony the Anzac Battles of Greece and Crete of April-May 1941.
Some 17,000 Australians fought in mainland Greece and Crete and 646 were lost. More than half of these Anzacs were not found or their remains identified.
On the occasion of the 78th Anniversary of the Battle of Crete and the Greek Campaign we wish to invite you and your families to attend the very poignant wreath laying ceremony at the Sydney Cenotaph, Martin Place.
The ceremony will be attended by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC Governor of New South Wales who will lay the first wreath .
This year’s Greek Military Delegation will consist of Vice Admiral, Ioannis Paxivanakis HN Deputy Chief of Defence accompanied by his aide Lieutenant Colonel Christos Anastasiadis.
We will also be honoured by the presence of representatives of the nsw and Federal Parliament, Consulates General, Australian military officers, Anzac families and schools.
