Annie Bierzynski: Near and Far

An emotionally charged ode to The Kimberley

Annie Bierzynski takes on an emotionally charged ode to The Kimberley region in her recent body of landscape work, Near and Far. The towering red cliffs, stunning gorges and desert ochres emerge in her art as a site of inner reflection and exploration as she embraces the beauty of her adopted land, Australia. Using an instinctive language consisting of layering, drips, varied brush strokes, and deliberate movements, Bierzynski is able to synthesise her complex identity with an ever-strengthening connection to Australia. Her deep engagement with shape, colour and textural elements is inspired by the patterning and vibrant aesthetic of her Caribbean heritage, while her artistic journey continues to be informed by her new home.

“My intention throughout my art-making practice is for the paintings to develop a life of their own. I am always moving away from pure representation, instead evoking emotion through semi-abstraction while capturing the moments of connection with place.” – Annie Bierzynski.
