Dance artist Diane Busuttil and technological percussionist Alon Ilsar are taking over the Ideas space for International Day for People with Disability. Come and experiment with the Airsticks 2.0, a revolutionary wireless digital gestural instrument. Enjoy watching performances and demonstrations or try out the Airsticks yourself.

Designed at Monash University’s Senselab, the Airsticks aim to remove the barriers of traditional acoustic instruments for musicians and performers with physical disabilities. The sound and visuals are triggered and manipulated through body movement alone.

Alon, co-designer of the Airsticks has performed on the instrument at New York’s MET Museum with actor and singer Alan Cumming, and at Splendour in the Grass and the City Recital Hall. The AirSticks also featured at TEDxSydney, on Triple J’s Like a Version, and in projects with members of Hiatus Kaiyote, Hermitude and the Cat Empire.

Bookings aren’t required. You can drop in anytime.

We aim to present inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs, contact Teik Kim Pok, programs coordinator on 02 9246 7540 or email tpok@cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au.
