CALL IT A PUZZLE, CALL IT A POEM.

A Very Very Very Dark Matter by Tony, Olivier and Oscar-winning writer Martin McDonagh (The Lieutenant of Inishmore, In Bruges) will make its Australian debut at Flight Path Theatre in 2026.

In nineteenth-century Copenhagen we find Hans Christian Andersen, who's exquisite and fantastical children's stories are beloved by millions. But Anderson has a very, very, very dark secret. The true genius behind his stories is imprisoned in his attic; a Congolese pygmy woman whom he calls 'Marjory'. While the egotistical Andersen navigates the demands of global fame; gladhanding critics and keeping his secret safe, Marjory plots her escape - and her revenge. Shocking and hilarious, McDonagh's commentary on colonialism and exploitation promises to make you laugh, think and cry all at once; packed with ham-fisted metaphors, time travelling Belgian terrorists, and the playwright's trademark sense of humour.

"A magnificent wild card of a show, possibly McDonagh's most magnetic work this century."

- The Financial Times

"This work confirms that McDonagh is a genuine original with a talent to disturb."

- The Guardian
