Wednesday 22 June 2022 from 6pm to 7pm

Hear from a panel of architects and experts as they discuss how modernism impacted Australian architecture and the lasting legacies of the movement.

Architecture and design are part of a complex continuum that allows the built environment the scope to evolve and change over time, with major implications for the way we live.

The mid-20th Century in Australia was a time of mass immigration, accompanied by urbanisation, technological advances, and a belief in political progress. The European diaspora beginning in the late 1930s carried modernism across the globe and to Australia, including new thoughts on architecture.

The expert panel will discuss how modernism and modernity continues to influence the designs of architects working today, in both positive and negative ways. Speakers will give their thoughts on the legacy of modernism and on key buildings in Australia’s architectural history, reflecting on choices relating to form, space, materials and sustainability.

Moderator: Peter Salhani, journalist

Expert panel:

If you are a lover of modernist design, architecture or history, then this talk is for you.
