Sydney Climate Action Summit postponed

In light of the evolving worldwide health emergency, the City of Sydney and C40 Cities have made the difficult decision to postpone the summit.

This decision follows the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring Covid-19 (novel coronavirus) a global pandemic. Prime Minister Scott Morrison and public health officials have also advised against holding public, non-essential gatherings of more than 500 people.

The summit was due to take place in Sydney from 31 March to 2 April.

With support from international mayors, a coalition of mayors from metropolitan and regional Australia was due to meet with local businesses, community, industry, Indigenous leaders and school students. Their aim was to call for action to tackle the climate emergency.

The summit included a series of large-scale public events, including a CityTalk, the Mayors and Citizens Summit and the Sydney Climate Expo. Invitation-only events included a Student Climate Summit and Business Summit.

Even though the summit has been postponed, the City of Sydney and C40 Cities remain determined to continue to act on climate change. We will continue to work with mayors and local leaders to take urgent local action during this climate emergency.
